![]() ![]() This BMS monitors the energy that flows into the battery and the amount of energy that is taken from the battery and intervenes in the charging process of the generator based on this result. In addition, the factory installed auxiliary heater often does not work correctly when the battery voltage is low and either does not switch on at all or switches off immediately with a warning message (battery voltage too low).įirst, some general information about the vehicle: Land Rover Discovery 4 introduced a so-called BMS (actually Battery Monitoring System, but mostly called Battery Management System). The Discovery is relatively sensitive to battery voltage and a low battery voltage can even lead to a variety of obstructive error messages (HDC, ABS, suspension, etc.). That seemed to circumvent a whole load of pain.Very often, Land Rover Discovery 3 and 4 have been reported to have battery problems. I have done this by manually unlocking (dead battery), putting the key in the ignition, then applying jump leads. There might be a short-cut by powering up with the key in the ignition, but I haven't tried it enough times to be sure. ![]() So I walk away for 30 mins then try again from a clean attempt. I've also found that if I am 'powering up' from a dead battery, the act of unlocking and trying to start the car can confuse the EKA logic, so I find I have inadvertently started an EKA sequence which then fails and locks me out. I keep a diagram in my wallet showing direction of key turn and number of times in case it is needed when I am away from home. I have no idea what letters mean - mine is a 4 digit numerical code. If you mess up, you get "EKA LOCKOUT" on the message centre.īut, if you follow the instructions _very_ carefully, it does work, and the car will start. If the Disco is the same, then the sidelight lamp on the dash will illuminate each time you turn the key, so you know you have turned it far enough. I also found the illustration in the manual to be reversed I think. I have used the EKA on my P38 a few times, and it's very fiddly even if you do know what you are doing. ![]()
